LABORATORY MONITOR, PAARL

 

The International Partnership for Microbicides, Inc. (IPM) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to promoting product development and world-wide access to microbicides.  IPM’s goal is to develop women-initiated vaginal products that prevent the sexual transmission of HIV/AIDS, especially in low-resource settings.  IPM has its headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland with offices in South Africa and Belgium, and conducts research and development in the scientific and public policy arenas.

 

The Laboratory Monitor will be responsible for assisting national and international laboratory sites with laboratory development, capacity, equipment, documentation system and training according to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) standards. The Laboratory Monitor will support national and international laboratory sites to establish and maintain quality assurance programs for HIV Incidence studies and phase I-III clinical trials.

 

Prerequisite for appointment is at least a Biotechnology degree (or equivalent), preferably with a minimum of 3 years working experience in clinical research and laboratory setting.  Prior work experience should demonstrate knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GCP), SOP writing and the ability to motivate and mentor.  Familiarity with HIV/AIDS and/or medical setting will enhance an application.

 

In addition to the above, the following prerequisites will complete the desired professional profile:

  • ·         Proficiency in MS Office products, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Responsibilities:
KAPA is inviting applications for the full-time position of Quality Control Scientist in our Manufacturing Department. The successful applicant will report to the Production Manager and will be required to perform the following tasks:

• Daily execution of PCR-based QC assays.
• Daily submission of QC reports.
• Assistance with validation, optimization and development of QC assays.
• Assistance with other Manufacturing-related tasks as and when required.

Requirements:
The following skills and experience are requirements for the position:

• A thorough understanding of the concepts associated with Quality Control.
• The ability to perform PCR assays according to instructions in a meticulous manner and within specified time frames.
• The ability to multitask, perform consistently under pressure and work without supervision.
• A good theoretical knowledge and at least one year’s practical experience in PCR techniques, including analysis of PCR products by agarose gel electrophoresis/ethidium bromide staining.
• The computer skills required to compile QC reports in MSWord. This includes basic skills in the handling and formatting of image (JPG) files and the use of Windows Explorer and Microsoft Excel.
• Good communication and personal task management skills and a high level of self-motivation.
• A tertiary degree or diploma (2 year minimum) in Biological Sciences/Technology, Biomedical Sciences/Technology.

Additional information:
• Experience in a Medical, Pathology, QC, GLP or other relevant industrial/commercial laboratory is preferred.
• The starting salary will range between R 140,000 and R 180,000 per annum (cost-to-company).
• Experience in real-time or qPCR is preferred.
