FULL-TIME QUALITY CONTROL SCIENTIST
KAPA Biosystems is a Cape Town-based biotechnology company specialising in
protein engineering. KAPA employs a high throughput molecular evolution
technology platform to engineer and develop novel enzymes for DNA

Responsibilities:
KAPA is inviting applications for the full-time position of Quality Control
Scientist in our Manufacturing Department. The successful applicant will
report to the Production Manager and will be required to perform the
following tasks:
• Daily execution of PCR-based QC assays.
• Daily submission of QC reports.
• Assistance with validation, optimization and development of QC
assays.
• Assistance with other Manufacturing-related tasks as and when
required.
Requirements:
The following skills and experience are requirements for the position:
• A thorough understanding of the concepts associated with Quality
Control.
• The ability to perform PCR assays according to instructions in a
meticulous manner and within specified time frames.
• The ability to multitask, perform consistently under pressure and
work without supervision.
• A good theoretical knowledge and at least one year’s practical
experience in PCR techniques, including analysis of PCR products by
agarose gel electrophoresis/ethidium bromide staining.
• The computer skills required to compile QC reports in MSWord. This
includes basic skills in the handling and formatting of image (JPG)
files and the use of Windows Explorer and Microsoft Excel.
• Good communication and personal task management skills and a high
level of self-motivation.
• A tertiary degree or diploma (2 year minimum) in Biological
Sciences/Technology, Biomedical Sciences/Technology.
Additional information:
• Experience in a Medical, Pathology, QC, GLP or other relevant
industrial/commercial laboratory is preferred.
• The starting salary will range between R 140,000 and R 180,000 per annum
(cost-to-company).
• Experience in real-time or qPCR is preferred.

instrumentation and administration
Special knowledge and abilities (skills): Knowledge and practical
experience with the requirements of Good Laboratory Practice or other
laboratory accreditation systems standards and regulations; Ability to work

attention to detail; Ability to work according to strict discipline
