19th National Congress, Bloemfontein


Recipients of Prizes and Awards 2007

 

The following awards were presented at the 19th National Congress held in Bloemfontein. Only SMLTSA members are eligible to receive awards.

 BACTLAB SYSTEMS GOLD AWARD

A prize of R2000, sponsored by Bactlab Systems (Pty) Ltd, will be awarded to the person who has contributed to the academic improvement of  presented at the SMLTSA National Congress in the categories of Microbiology or Serology. Preference will be given to original work. Other requirements include membership of the SMLTSA and at least three years qualification in Medical Technology.

BACTLAB SYSTEMS PREMIER AWARD

The prize of R10,000 and a trophy, sponsored by Bactlab Systems (Pty) Ltd, will be awarded to the person who has contributed most to improve the standard of papers presented at the SMLTSA National Congress in the category Microbiology. Requirements include membership of the SMLTSA and at least five years qualification in Medical Technology.

JOSEPH AWARD FOR THE BEST PAPER PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL, MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY, SA

R1000, sponsored by the SMLTSA, will be awarded for a paper published in the Medical Technology, SA, the contents of which are considered to be of the highest standard. The author/s is required to apply to the Awards Committee to have contributions evaluated. A copy of the relevant publication must accompany their application.

LABOTEC THERMO SHANDON AWARD FOR ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE FIELD OF CYTOLOGY

An award R1000 will be given for original research, publication of an outstanding paper, presentation at a Congress and / or service to the profession in the field of Cytology.

THE SCEINTIFIC GROUP AWARD – “TECHNOLOGIST OF THE YEAR

Sponsored by The Scientific Group for the “Technologist of the Year”.  The A prize of R5000 plus a plaque will be awarded to the person who ahs most contributed to the profession. This award will be evaluated by the SMLTSA –PRO-Committee.

THE THISTLE QA AWARD

 Recipients for this award will be nominated by Thistle QA.

WIRSAM - OLYMPUS MICROSCOPIC AWARD

 Wirsam will present and Olympus compact camera, for service and dedication in one of the following fields; Cytogenetics, Cytology, Histology, Microbiology or Electron Microscopy.

ROCHE AWARD

 To recognize a member of the Society who has made significant contributions in furthering the aims of Medical Technology. The prize includes two economy airfares to Germany to visit Roche Manufacturing and research sites. All accommodation and meals are covered while visiting the sites and Euro 500 spending money.

DADE BEHRING / SMLTSA

 Sponsored by, Dade Behring SA (Pty) Ltd and the SMLTSA to sponsor the attendance at a course on presentation skills.

THE DAVIES DIAGNOSTIC AWARD FOR EXTRA-ORDINAY SERVICE

 R1000 sponsored by Davies Diagnostics will be awarded for EXTRA ordinary service to the profession of Medical Technology.

 BIO-RAD B.Tech AWARD

 R2500, presented by Bio-rad will be awarded to a Medical Technologist who has excelled in achieving the B.Tech degree. Nominations must include a full motivation, copy/indication of results as well as a copy of the certificate.

 BIO-RAD AWARD FOR SPECIAL LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS

 R2500 will awarded  for either a paper or poster, presented at the congress, in the field of Haemoglobinopathies, HbA1C or other related work in these areas.

SEPSCI GROUP AWARD

R2500 donated by Separation Sciences will be awarded in the field of Chemical Pathology for publications or contributions in any subject which uses technologies in separation sciences.
